«SynBody»

SynBody is a collaborative project with Javier F. Gorostiza (DART), whose main idea is to transform movement and bodily contact into sound through technology. It consists of a suit equipped with sensors (proximity, tilt, and pressure) that enable the modification of different sound spaces through movement.

This project was a case study for my doctoral thesis, "Technology as an Extension of Sensory Faculties in the Performing Arts." It originates from a previous work titled "When There Is Contact, There Is Sound."

SynBody has been presented as a work-in-progress in various contexts, including: Performance Architectures: Wearables and Gestures of Participation Symposium – International Metabody Forum, Antonin Artaud Center, DAP Lab, Brunel University (London, UK, 2016). Art Madrid Fair – One Shot Hotels, The Makers (2017). Arte y Carne Exhibition – Museo Complutense (2017). Frankenstein: 200 Years Later Congress – Museo del Romanticismo, Madrid (2018). Department of Dance, University of Taipei (Taiwan, 2018). This project emerged as the result of a previous prototype, "Cuando hay contacto hay sonido"

Cuando hay contacto hay Sonido

SynBody is based on a previous project, Cuando hay contacto hay sonido.

We dance when we hear sounds that resonate with us (they connect with different parts of our body and make us move). But what would music be like when it's produced by bodily impulse and the contact of bodies with each other? How can we use technology to translate these physical phenomena into sound? And how can we organize this information to develop a musical proposal with a certain aesthetic interest?
